Countless talented writers have tried and embraced the genre, making it as rich and varied as any other you could imagine. On the surface, that might seem distasteful and kitschy in every way, but Spiegelman has committed a miracle in that the style works perfectly and you are able to completely buy it with not one iota of irony or disbelief at any point.
