This is believed to be the most dangerous type of shark in the world. They get used to people and get quite tame. In lakes, look for the bass near gravel bars, shoals, weed beds and near drop-offs. A large specimen can easily destroy glass heaterstats, thermometers etc. Its food of choice is plankton or small fish, though humans can risk getting sucked into the beast's mouth if swimming in the vicinity. The extent of this behavior in the wild is unknown, as is whether other species have this capability.

Size at maturity in female sharks is approximately 9 m TL, based on visual (Acuña-Marrero et al. 2014, Ramírez-Macías et al. 2012) and laser photogrammetric estimates (Acuña-Marrero et al. 2014) from the Eastern Pacific, and a 9.6 m TL individual recorded from Taiwan (Hsu et al. 2014). Speartooth-like sharks occur in Borneo, New Guinea, and Queensland, Australia, but it is uncertain at present if any of these are the true Glyphis glyphis.
