Most commonly, PTSD can cause other psychiatric problems including major depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders, and agoraphobia. Adapting explains the fear responses caused by certain triggers that were first associated with the upsetting event. A precipitating traumatic event is necessary, but not sufficient, to make the diagnosis of PTSD.
